STEVE'S BLOG
Lost 1.5 lbs. this week. Noticeable results are; work jeans and belt are too big and there is more spring and speed in my step. I now can wear the jeans I bought that have a 34" waist. I still have a lot of belly fat to lose. Monday is my "happy meal day" and after eating a pepperoni pizza and drank a root beer my body did not react as being satisfied but more like rejection. My "happy meal" breakfast was great and kept me hunger free until dinner time at 7 pm.
Believe it or not, I am looking forward to eating veggies, fruits and leafy greens for the next 6 days! Other family members are also on the Eat to Live plan and are doing fantastic! My oldest son and his wife are getting healthy and losing weight, my daughter is doing the same and my second oldest son has reached his ideal weight.

Starting Weight: 181.5 lbs
Current Weight: 155.5
Total weight loss to date is 26 lbs. Went to doctor for physical. Last time I was there my bad cholesterol was 141. Doctor informed me ideally it should be 100. I've lost over twenty pounds since I last seen the doctor so they decided to do some blood work to check my bad cholesterol. It is now down to 115. I still need to continue to lose more weight, doc says I should weight 130 lbs., no less, which means I have 25.5 more lbs. to lose.
I finally feel like I've come to my "ah ha" moment. I know how to do it now. I eat healthy at home and save my splurges for when we go out, which is usually once a week. I don't feel deprived at all and I really enjoy
and look forward to our splurges, although I think I over did it this past Monday. Went to breakfast, had eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, juice and a cup of decaffeinated coffee. Like my husband I was full for the entire day until dinner which was a foot long seafood sandwich on wheat bread with the works, a bag of BBQ potato chips and soda... and to top it all off I had popcorn with salt and another soda. Yeah, I think I over did it but it was gooood! The next day however I was ready to eat healthy again, cause it tore up my insides and I was quite irregular if you know what I mean. This week I will work on losing the weight I gained back from the splurge.
Like my daughter we both struggle with having nuts in the house. I have a tendency to snack on nuts more than I should and raisins. I need to go back to only having them with a meal...and limit my snacking.
Had to go out and buy some jeans that "fit" as my jeans look totally ridiculous on me, really big and baggy and I practically have to hold them up. Went to the thrift shop for jeans, "Cheap Cheap". If I have 25 more pounds to lose I really don't want to spend a fortune on something new that I'm only going to wear for a month or two, however I will treat myself to a new outfit come the holiday...I would love to get into the 140s by Christmas.
I can not believe this is week 8. I really don't know what week we are on without looking as this way of eating has become just a part of our everyday life. It is truly amazing how easy it has become to revise recipes to conform with the Eat to Live way of eating.

Week 7 Update
STEVE'S BLOG
First of all I would like to thank all the people for their positive comments on Karen's and my eating healthy challenge. All of your comments were more motivation for me to keep going with this different life style. With the results and healthy knowledge of this adventure I am continuing on but on a more moderate weight loss pace. Right now I'm stuck in the upper 180 lb range. I have incorporated weight lifting into my daily routine. I guess building muscle puts weight on. I don't want to feel scrawny after achieving my ideal weight, if I get there.
Most of my weight loss(32lbs.) has been in my thighs and hips. However I did lose 2" around the waist, that is measured around the belly button. I have plenty more to lose in that area. We have a cruise planned for this January, so until we set sail, I will stay with Eat to Live. I will have a treat once a week though. I really over did my treat day this last Saturday at a birthday party with the Family. Two big roast beef sandwiches, lots of chips, two beers, three deviled eggs, two scoops of ice cream and four frosted cupcakes !!!! During that pig out session I enjoyed every bite and every sip of all that food and beverage. Afterwards it was a mental guilt trip, big time!!! So now I know what moderation means.

Continuing on with the Eat to Live plan...lost .5 lbs this week (week 7), not a great loss, but a loss and that is with a splurge of a big roast beef sandwich, pasta, two kinds of chips and dip...plus a cupcake and then after that a Frosty. Talk about over doing it. Was at family birthday party and I had a good time and enjoyed my splurge. It sure was good...and it's over with, back home and on the right track again until we go out again. It is best that we save our splurges for going out. I realize now that
having splurge food in the house would not be good. I eat what is here...and having splurge food in the house would be too much of a temptation, especially since we are off the detox challenge. My husband failed to mention the banana split we splurged on last night...GUILTY!
Went to Dr. today for physical...have to go back for blood work. My bad cholesterol was not good a year ago...but since I lost over 20 lbs the Dr. is interested to see what my cholesterol is now. I am in good physical shape and the Dr. recommended my weight to be no less than 130 lbs. So that means I could stand to lose 28.5 more lbs. I am sticking to the foods we ate during our 6 week detox, but not going to be quite as strict on the amount of the limited amount foods.
Onto week 8...wow... I can not believe how fast the 6 week detox went, of course that is after the first few days, which I remember being rough. But this way of eating gets easier by the day.

Week 6 update
STEVE'S BLOG
Six weeks ago I weighed 218.5 lbs. Today I weigh 186.5 lbs. That's a 32 lb. weight loss without strenuous exercise or so called diet pills. Just healthy eating. No medications, no pending doctor appointments, and no health issues. Not bad for a 63 year old man! To celebrate this accomplishment the Wife and I are dining out tonight, steak and lobster, YUMMMM! I haven't reached the ideal healthy weight, but I do plan to eat my way there by choosing to eat healthy and having a treat once in awhile.
As the day went on our plans changed from eating out to eating in. Not a bad decision, saved money and we knew what was going to be in our food. I had my double pepper jack cheese bacon burger with chips and a root beer soda. A large chocolate frosty for dessert. A gain of 2 lbs, crap! No problem, I'll get rid of that by eating to live again.

End of six week detox, total weight loss of 22.5 lbs. I have lost weight with each week of detox. I am a little nervous about splurging tonight. We ate a healthy breakfast (all fruit) and we will be eating a healthy lunch (salad and soup). Even tho it sounds better to list it as soup and salad, I've learned that your salad should always be eaten first.
As my husband said, our plans for splurging changed as the day went on. My splurge wound up being two BLTs on single serving whole wheat thin deli flats. I used less than a tablespoon of miracle whip light and three slices of low sodium bacon for the two sandwiches. Later that evening I had a large frosty. I'm satisfied for the week, back to eating healthy. I look forward to my next splurge. I have at least a whole week to think about what it might be.
I also started to exercise today...walk/run one mile. Just maybe it will accelerate my weight loss. It can be
frustrating to lose only a pound or two a week, especially after totally changing what I eat and my eating habits.
On to week 7... continuing on.

Week 5 Update
STEVE'S BLOG
WOW! 5 weeks into detox total weight loss of 29.5 lbs. One thing I have noticed is I don't get drowsy at work. Good thing because I drive a big truck. I'm at 189 lbs., haven't seen that number for several years. Health wise not much has changed except for blood pressure dropping. I rarely ever did get sick. Energy level is still about the same, I move at the pace of the old man that I am. Looking forward to next weeks weigh-in and our Friday night eat out following that weigh-in.
I went to the farmers market and bought a bunch of fresh vegetables for under $20.00. What a deal! So much better than store bought. With the fresh vegetables and help from my wife we made a salt free, sugar free, all natural Italian Sauce. We used the sauce for our Eggplant Lasagna, good, and a lot of work, but not as good as the Eggplant Roll Ups. Next we will try the No Meat Balls in Stuffed Green Peppers.
I must be hooked of this Eat to Live Plan, because some of these recipes are starting to sound good. Imagine that, a meat and potatoes guy liking vegetables!
Oh yeah...We found a Health Food Store near our home. They carry the off the wall ingredients needed for some of these recipes in Dr. Fuhrman's book.

End of week 5. To date I have lost 21.5 lbs. I have been losing at a slow pace, but I am okay with that. I was hoping to get into the 150's this week, but oh well...next week for sure. My energy level is up, my pants are bagging, my bras aren't fitting and it's time to up grade my granny panties. I'm feeling really good and like my husband I am getting hooked on the foods we have been eating. I'm actually finding myself sitting down at a meal and saying "yum".
We have one more week of detox. I am so excited about it, yet a little nervous. I plan on continuing with this Eat to Live Plan, as I have more weight to lose. I have not decided when my splurges will take place. Most likely I will wait for the holidays since they are just around the corner. I look forward to my end of detox splurge...BLT... Low sodium bacon (one slice), lettuce and tomato on whole wheat bread with watermelon on the side, "yum".
My husband and I have been experimenting with different recipes...reading the labels...and passing the pepper only at meal times. There is no longer any salt or sugar in our home. It's been a challenge but in the long run it will pay off. It is nice to have the support and to support my husband in this healthy life style change.
