Week 4 Update

September 24, 2012

STEVE'S BLOG

Thank goodness for end of week four.  Two more weeks to go.  Total weight loss is 27 lbs.  Aches and pains in joints is decreasing making it easier to walk up and down the stairs.  I don't like the six week detox but I'm doing it to get healthier and to support my wife while she is doing it.  Haven't fallen off the wagon, but the temptations are there and they are looking better every day.  Other family members have taken on the challenge and I wish them good luck.  Just a reminder, it is all about getting healthy not just about lossing weight.

My blood pressure has dropped another 5 points on the systolic side.

KAREN'S BLOG

Unlike my husband I have plenty of things to say about week four.  Discouraged!  My husband has lost 4 lbs. (good for him),  I on the other hand have lost one (1), yes I said one pound, grr.  I know it is about getting healthy, but the weight loss is to come with it, right?  I guess I need to be thinking one pound loss is better than a no loss or a gain.  I will continue on.  My weight loss to this day is 18 lbs.  It is actually the most weight I've ever lost on a diet plan.

Enjoy eating fresh fruits for breakfast.  Can't get used to drinking breakfast.  Today I sit here drinking a smoothie while blogging and I still haven't found a dressing I like for my salads.  Makes for a not so positive blog.   If I do not find a dressing I like...after this detox I most definately will go back to my blue cheese dressing.  I have tried the thousand island, ranch  and apple pie dressing in Dr. Furhman's book, not to my liking.  I hope to try the ceaser dressing this week.  Need to find nutrional yeast for recipe.  I understand it will give the dressing a cheesy flavor.  Hopefully that will get me past my blue cheese cravings.  I am finding it extremely hard to eat a salad without dressing...I have been putting on fruit instead, mandarin oranges, pineapple and raspberries.    I try to eat a big salad every day, but there has been a day or two that I needed a break from it.  Now with blue cheese dressing I could eat a salad twice a day, everyday.  If I do go back to blue cheese dressing, I've learned alot about reading the ingredients and what to look for so I will choose the most heathiest I can find, to my liking of course.

Nuts...may be my problem.  You are limited one serving.  My servings may be a little on the " big ounce size", and there was a day during week 4 that I had a tendency to snack, however my snacks were healthy choices.

and WATER...need to drink more water.  There are some days I go without drinking anything, just because I'm just not thristy.

My goal this 5th week is to eat more salad and try to find a dressing I like.  Be a little more careful on the amount of nuts I eat, drink water at every meal and walk/run one mile at least four times this week.

I need to end this on a positive note...I lost weight.  This is the most weight I've lost on any diet plan.  I no longer drink soda or coffee, and have no intention of going back to my old habits of drinking soda and coffee.  I am eating healthy and feeling healthy.

On to week 5.

End of week number 3.  So far I have lost 24.5 lbs. and 2.5 inches in the waist.  Blood pressure is still dropping without medication.  I really don't feel any different.  My work jeans are falling off of me now.  I had to put another notch in my belt.

I still don't like eating like this.  Went on motorcycle ride with fellow bikers.  Every time we stopped for fuel they would snack on chips, soda and candy bars while I salivated on the sides.  Also when we stopped at the restaurant to eat I had a half of a head of romaine lettuce while everyone chowed down on burgers, fries and ruebans, oh how delicious that looked, but I did not fall off the wagon.  Three more weeks of detox.  I am trying to take the aggressive weight loss but every now and then I fall into the moderate weight loss diet.

KAREN'S BLOG - Sept. 17th

Starting weight:  181.5
Today's weight:  164

I am down 17.5 lbs. in 3 weeks of being on this Eat to Live plan.   It took me 2 weeks to wean myself off coffee.  That worked out best for me.  I only suffered light headaches for two days.  As of the beginning of this week the coffee pot no longer sits on my counter.  I have felt kind of sluggish, no doubt a withdrawal symptom of coffee I am sure, so I just went to bed and slept it off.  In reality I needed the sleep not coffee. This diet is getting easier to follow and the food is beginning to taste better.  I have been places and have had the opportunities to indulge, but have had no desire, unlike my husband.

This plan Eat to Live has been the best diet plan I've ever been on by far,  and there have been many.  I love the 6 week detox challenge.  I do not plan on going back to my old way of eating after the 6 weeks.  I don't believe my husband will go back to his old way of eating as well,  however he does look forward to the end of the 6 week detox program so he can have his burger...but it will be on a whole wheat bun, with fruit on the side instead of chips...I'm sure he will fight me on that one...lol

STEVE'S BLOG:

Well it is the end of the 2nd week...We started this detox at the wrong time.  Should of waited until after Labor Day, start of the footall season and my birthday.  Disappointed after weighing in this morning.  Down to 199.5 lbs.  Well...good thing is it is under 200.  My biggest concern is losing inches, not the weight.  Down 2" in the waist line, 44" to 42" now.  It's tough sticking with this plan when I work three days a week.  My work days are sporatic and long.  Not much time to take a break for a scheduled lunch, but I manage with a carrot or two, with a fruit...cake...lol.  Breakfast is early, lunch is questionable and dinner is always late.  It would be easier if I had a set schedule during work days.  My four days off of work are good because I have my wife's, Karen's support.  Here's to a better meal planning 3rd week.  Oh by the way, thanks Mike.

KAREN'S BLOG:

This is week 2 for me as well.  I started out at 181.5 lbs.  I currently weigh 167 lbs., for a total weight loss of 14.5 lbs.  YAY!  Waist measured 42" at start, embarrassing.  I now have a waist size of 40".  Lost 2" off waistline.  My jeans are just starting to feel baggy.

I am still drinking coffee, however I am down to 2 cups in a 24 hour period versus 12 cups in the beginning.  I've suffered from headaches for the past few years and to my surprise I have not suffered one headache since being on this diet, not even from caffiene withdrawals.  I feel pretty good today.   Had lots of energy in the beginning, then got a little sluggish and irritable.  I think part of it was because of Labor Day, the opening season of football and my husband's birthday.  A time when everyone gets together for FOOD and FUN.  With the help of my partner...we were able to succeed, suffer through it.

I've had no problems with acid reflux and sleeping is getting easier.  I noticed in the beginning of this diet I was up and down all night going to the bathroom.  That has tappered off.  Only up once last night.

This has been... a not so easy task...It is getting better and we are being a little more creative with our recipes we have thanks to our son and his daily phone calls and tips... keeping us accountable and on track. Having a supportive partner (husband) has been a tremendous help as well.  When one feels sluggish and wanting to give up the other is supportive and takes over preparing meals.  The ice cream takes the edge off of feeling deprived as well.  I can honestly say...I will never buy store bought ice cream again.

On  the upside:  Went to daughter's house on football Sunday.  To our surpise... she had already purchased the book, (our bible), Eat to Live.  She was not even aware of the fact that we had read the book and started the plan.  AWESOME!!!!

Here's to a good 3rd week.  Bring it on!

My 1st week of  6 week plan has been completed, 5 more to go. I WANT A HOMECOOKED HAMBURGER!!! It has not been easy to stick to this new eating change but it will be worth it. I've lost 16 lbs in the first week! I still look fat in the gut. 44" waist is huge to me. I'm glad I didn't let myself get any bigger than that. It has been very boring eating like a monkey but Karen and I are learning to spice the menu up a bit.
My blood pressure was up a bit 141/80 due to the fact I dropped taking asprin on a daily basis. I will continue to exercise lifting weights, bicycling and walking. No more running until the knees start feeling better.
It's nice to have such great support from my wife Karen. She too is doing a great job of sticking with the plan.

Under the influence of my son Michael, my wife and I started  Eat to Live diet. I myself am carnivorous and this diet takes me in the opposite direction. To start this change of eating habits I will be on a 6 week detoxification. Eating lots of fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. This is not easy to do. It has been only 5 days since we begun, I am experiencing spasmisms in the stomach and charlie-horse like symptoms in both lower legs and frequent urination. What's up with that? My starting weight is 218.5 lbs., midsection measurement of 44". I am 6' and 62 years old. I have had a history of high blood pressure and brder line diabetic.
I complained to my wife about the depression I am experiencing. She told me to step on the scale and that the weigh-in would make me feel better. It did somewhat. I've lost 10 lbs ! Pretty good for 5 days, but a cheese burger would be fantastic ! Miss my hamburgers !
